When you have a negative thought, write it down and let it go. Negative thoughts generally make a lot less sense when they’re on paper, and by acknowledging the fear but not letting it hinder you, you will be free to move forward.
There’s only so long a girl can go without brunch. Yesterday, I met up with Connie (The Lovely Cipher) and Jane (Eye It Try It) to get brunch at a charming little family-owned restaurant called Katy’s Korner. It was just like the last time we brunched, except that we were in California instead of New York, which made it all the more exciting! We tried to look local, we really did. I was in jeans and a khaki blazer that I got for Christmas, but somewhere between Connie’s huge lamb scarf, Jane’s wine-colored felt hat and my severe ring candy - we looked a little out of place, especially given that the table next to us was in pajamas.
In the evening, we went to The Doors- a wonderful Asian tapa restaurant with such great service, I took my family the next day! Reconnecting with old friends is always a therapeutic way to start the week. We sampled the pad thai, pork belly, paella, curried eggplant, cauliflower and scallops along with a bottle of Syrah. Tapas restaurants are the perfect place to socialize when you’re watching your calorie intake - you can get the taste and variety, without having to be too conspicuous about monitoring your portions!

Hope everyone’s having a healthy, happy Christmas with family and loved ones. I’m back in California and the weather is abso-friggin-lutely gorgeous. Blue skies, crisp air, bright sun - a perfect getaway to recoup and refresh for the New Year.
My family is pretty simple for the holidays, we erect the same plastic Christmas tree that we’ve had for years and surround the base with gifts wrapped from the night before (I sent out a wish list this year, and though my parents were creatively selective about what they got me i.e. not on the wish list, at least it saved my mother the trouble of getting me an all-in-one yogurt maker “mom: but storemade yogurt is full of …random stuff!” - thanks mom but I think I’m sticking by my Fage…). After opening the gifts this morning, we ceremoniously saved the boxes for next year and sampled the peanut brittle that my mother has bought for the family before I cattle everyone outside for a run.
This week I’m going to focus on streamlining this blog so posts are more searchable and there’s some way to organize tags. Facebook Timeline…some advice please?
Merry Christmas everyone!
I’m feeling extraordinarily uplifted right now for no particular reason - and it’s bringing me a lot of clarity. Will debrief once I manage to ignore the wonderful icy tingling of my legs post-Whirlpool foot massage at the podiatrist.
